Your pauses cost you more than your turning speed. The easiest way to see them is to film yourself.
Set your phone facing the cube, do 5 normal solves, then watch them in slow motion. Note every stop longer than half a second and the step where it happens.
Step timing (in the timer settings) also measures the time for the cross, F2L, OLL and PLL. Compare with the usual split: about 15%, 50%, 15% and 20%.
Remember: A pause that keeps coming back at the same spot is often a case you don’t recognize fast enough: add it to your reviews.
Troubleshooting
- I don’t see a clear pause
- Watch your eyes rather than your hands: when they’re searching, your hands slow down.
- F2L takes more than half the time
- That’s the case for almost everyone. Go back to slow solves without pauses, looking for the next pair during the insert.
