To memorize, you give each sticker a letter. The most widely used scheme is called Speffz.
Face by face, in this order: top (A to D), left (E to H), front (I to L), right (M to P), back (Q to T) and bottom (U to X). On each face, go clockwise starting from the top left.
Edges and corners use the same letters. On top, edge A is at the back, B on the right, C in front, D on the left. Corner A is back-left, B back-right.
Practice naming random stickers on a solved cube until the letters come without thinking.
Remember: Always hold the cube with white on top and green in front, like for official scrambles.
Troubleshooting
- I mix up the faces
- Learn one face a day, starting with the top and the front.
- I get the direction wrong
- On each face, the next letter is always clockwise.
