Lesson 1 of 5 · Blindfolded

Solving without seeing: the idea

Understand how you solve a cube blindfolded with the Old Pochmann method.

Keyboard: Enter to continue, ← to go back. Keep your hands on the cube.

Blindfolded, you look at the cube, memorize what you see, then solve it with the blindfold on. The timer runs during both phases.

You don’t solve layer by layer: you place pieces one at a time. One piece, the buffer, is the starting point. You send it to its spot, which brings another piece into the buffer, and so on.

The Old Pochmann method is the easiest way to start: a single algorithm for edges (the T-perm), a single one for corners (a variant of the Y-perm), and setup moves.

Edges and corners are done separately: first all the edges, then all the corners.

Remember: You can already practice with your eyes open: what matters is never looking at the state of the cube.

Troubleshooting

Do you need a good memory?
No, you need a method: each sticker becomes a letter, and the letters become words.
It takes too long
First solves often take 10 to 20 minutes. The time drops fast.
