Finger tricks

Turn the faces with your fingers instead of your whole hand: the move that saves you the most time.

Keyboard: Enter to continue, ← to go back. Keep your hands on the cube.

Hold the cube with your thumbs in front and your other fingers behind, without squeezing.

R and R' are done with your right wrist, not your fingers. U is done with your right index finger: resting at the back, top right, it pulls the back corner toward you. U' is done the same way with your left index finger.

Practice R U R' U': 50 times a day for 5 days, slowly at first, then more and more fluidly. This move shows up everywhere, in F2L as well as the last layer.

Remember: If you have to let go of the cube to make a move, your grip needs work: your hands don’t leave the cube during an algorithm.

The cases

  • White facing right: R U R' U'. Corner above its slot (front right), white facing right: R U R' U' once.

Troubleshooting

My cube locks up during fast moves
Line up each face properly before turning the next one. An entry-level magnetic speedcube is much more forgiving than a regular cube.
I’m slower than before
That’s normal for a few days. The gain comes when the motion becomes automatic.
