The yellow cross

Make a yellow cross on top (the corners don’t count yet).

Keyboard: Enter to continue, ← to go back. Keep your hands on the cube.

Read whole lesson on one page

Look at the top and ignore the corners: you see a dot, an L, a line or already a cross.

Line: hold it horizontal and do F R U R' U' F'. L: hold it top-left (back and left) and do F U R U' R' F'. Dot: do the line algorithm, and you’ll get an L.

The starting position matters: a vertical line or a badly held L will send you around in circles.

Remember: F R U R' U' F' is F, then the sexy move, then F'. You already half know it.

The cases

  • Line: F R U R' U' F'. Hold the line horizontally, then do the algorithm once.
  • L: F U R U' R' F'. Hold the L at the top left (back and left). Alternative: do the line algorithm twice.
  • Dot: F R U R' U' F' U2 F U R U' R' F'. No yellow edge: do the line algorithm, you get an L, then solve the L.

Troubleshooting

I keep going around in circles
For the line, hold it horizontal (left to right). For the L, hold it back-left, like clock hands showing 9 o’clock and noon.
I have a yellow cross but the first two layers are broken
A move went wrong, often R instead of R'. It happens to everyone: redo steps 2 and 3, it’s quick the second time.
