Step 4 of 4
Step 4 of 4 · 2-look last layer

Placing the edges: Ua, Ub, H and Z

Finish the cube by placing the 4 top edges.

Keyboard: Enter to continue, ← to go back. Keep your hands on the cube.

Read whole lesson on one page

One side fully solved: hold it at the back. The three other edges cycle: to the left, it’s Ua; to the right, Ub.

No side solved: if the edges have to swap with the opposite one, it’s H; with the neighboring one, it’s Z.

One last U to line up the top, and the cube is solved. With these 4 steps, you have all 16 algorithms of the 2-look last layer.

Remember: Ua and Ub only use M and U: keep your hands in the same place and let your ring finger do the M moves.

The cases

  • Ua-perm: M2 U M U2 M' U M2. Edges: three edges cycle.
  • Ub-perm: M2 U' M U2 M' U' M2. Edges: three edges cycle the other way.
  • H-perm: M2 U M2 U2 M2 U M2. Edges: swaps opposite edges.
  • Z-perm: M' U M2 U M2 U M' U2 M2 U'. Edges: swaps two pairs of adjacent edges.

Troubleshooting

The edges cycle the wrong way
You did Ua instead of Ub (or the other way around). No big deal: do the same algorithm one more time.
