Placing the corners: T and Y

Put the 4 top corners in their spots, with just two algorithms.

Look for “headlights”: two corners of the same color on the same side. Turn U to see all four sides.

Headlights on one side only: hold them on the left and do the T-Perm. No headlights anywhere: do the Y-Perm. Headlights on all four sides: the corners are already placed.

Don’t worry about the edges during this step: they get sorted right after.

Remember: The T-Perm is the most used algorithm in the whole last layer: it deserves to be learned first.

The cases

T-perm: R U R' U' R' F R2 U' R' U' R U R' F'. Corners: headlights on one side. Swaps two adjacent corners.
Y-perm: F R U' R' U' R U R' F' R U R' U' R' F R F'. Corners: no headlights. Swaps two diagonal corners.

Troubleshooting

After the T-Perm, the headlights aren’t everywhere: The headlights were probably held on the right. Start again with them on the left.
