Lesson 1 of 6 · The Roux method
The Roux method in 4 steps
Understand the 4 steps of Roux and what sets it apart from CFOP.

Roux is the other major speedcubing method. It takes fewer moves than CFOP (about 45 instead of 55) and almost no cube rotations.
Step 1: a 1×2×3 block on the left. Step 2: the same block on the right. The two blocks leave the middle slice (M) and the top free.
Step 3: CMLL solves the 4 top corners. Step 4: the last six edges (LSE) are solved with only M and U.
The blocks are built intuitively, like intuitive F2L. Only CMLL needs algorithms, and you already know some of them.
Remember: Roux isn’t better or worse than CFOP: the best times in the world exist in both methods. Pick the one you enjoy.
Troubleshooting
- Should I give up CFOP?
- No. Many cubers learn Roux on the side, for fun or to understand the cube better.
- The M move is hard
- Turn M with your left ring finger or your right middle finger, pushing the slice from underneath.
