Turning the top to recognize a PLL costs half a second every solve. You can always recognize it by looking only at the front and right faces.
The clues: “headlights” (two corners of the same color on one face), blocks of two or three stickers of the same color, and opposite colors side by side.
For example, headlights with an edge of the opposite color between them is often a Z or an H. Headlights on the left face and a block of 3 in front is a U.
Practice in the recognition reviews: the PLL is shown, you pick the right case, and your response time is measured.
Remember: Learn the cases with headlights first, then the ones without: there are fewer of them.
Troubleshooting
- I mix up two PLLs
- The recognition reviews track your mix-ups: after two mistakes, the coach explains what tells the two cases apart.
- I recognize them, but too slowly
- That’s normal at first. Speed comes with spaced repetition.
